‘The Core’ refers to a group of muscles that provide a stable platform for movement and the increased efficiency of training and everyday activities. Contrary to popular belief this group of muscles is composed of more than just the abdominals and, although we tend to leave ‘core’ training to the end of our training sessions, it should be integrated into all of our exercises. In fact, some of the exercise we do regularly can be counter- productive.
So how do we train ‘the Core’ properly?
Firstly, you need to be aware of all the musculature that make up the core and how to activate and engage these muscles.
Secondly, understand how to adapt regular exercises to place more stress on the core and ultimately improve the conditioning of the body as a complex unit.
